TMJ Treatment

If you are fed up of ineffective TMJ treatment, nobody can blame you.  There is nothing worse than living with constant pain.  But the pain caused by problems with your tempromandibular joint can be life changing. Many sufferers face sleepless nights and end up with chronic sleep deprivation. This, as any sufferer will tell you, is not a joking matter.  Lack of sleep interferes with our ability to do our jobs and it doesn’t have a great effect on our personal relationships either.  It can also cause automobile accidents so is best avoided.

So what are the different TMJ treatment options?

Some people find that avoiding certain foods will help.  Certainly chewing gum or eating toffee candy is best avoided.

Doctors often recommend not opening your mouth too wide.  This is easier said than done as how do you measure “too wide”?  But you can reduce the size of a yawn using your hands to prevent your mouth gaping.  You can cut fruit such as Apples or Peaches into smaller bite sized pieces rather than biting direct into them.

Stress is often a factor in either the onset of TMJ syndrome or the worsening of the symptoms.  People are worrying more about their jobs, finances, relationships, the economy or perhaps even their security.  There are many things you can do to reduce your anxiety levels.  Exercise will help as will talking to somebody. If you are particularly stressed then please seek professional help.  But it is worth remembering that some people are stressed because of lack of sleep due to the underlying TMJ problem so can be caught in a vicious circle.

Is Bruxism a contributing factor?

Bruxism is the medical term for teeth grinding.  Some people will grind their teeth very badly particularly at night.  Stress can cause it but it can also be caused when the teeth or jaw bones are out of alignment due to genetics or a facial injury.  The jury is out on whether TMJ problems are caused by Bruxism or whether it is a symptom of a problem already existing within the tempromandibular joint.  It doesn’t really matter.  Teeth grinding causes damage to your teeth and gums, can lead to severe headaches and jaw pain and isn’t too pleasant for your partner either.  Children can also suffer and is it sometimes caused by anxiety.    If you or your child suffers from Bruxism do not ignore it or accept that you have to suffer as it is a family trait.   There is help available.

So how do I deal with tempromandibular joint disorder?

First ignore anyone who says that you just have to live with constant jaw pain.  While this may be the case for a minor number of acute sufferers, it certainly isn’t the case for the majority. The sad fact is that many people who suffer from this syndrome do not receive proper care.  So do yourself a favor and read more on this effective TMJ treatment now.  For less than the price of a good night out you could be pain free and living life to the full again.  What do you have to lose?
